China Southern Accepts the First Boeing 747-400 Freighter for a China Customer
EVERETT, Wash., June 19, 2002 -- China Southern Airlines became the first Chinese carrier to operate the Boeing 747-400 Freighter. The jetliner is the first 747-400 in the China Southern fleet and the first all-cargo airplane operated by the airline.
The 747-400F is the leading freighter airplane in operation today, with a 124-ton (112,630-kilogram) cargo capacity. The introduction of the 747 as a freighter has been a key driver in the development of the air cargo industry, in which the 747 freighter fleet comprises about 45 percent of the world's dedicated freighter capacity.
