AIR FORCE RECEIVES NEWEST C-17

LONG BEACH, Calif., July 1, 1997 -- Brig. Gen. Steve Roser, commander of the 437th Airlift Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., took delivery of the latest McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) C-17 Globemaster III during a ceremony here today.

General Roser flew the aircraft, the 32nd delivered to the Air Force, to Charleston. He commands the active duty wing that operates the C-17s at Charleston. The Reserve Associate 315th Airlift Wing also flies the airplanes at Charleston.

The latest C-17 was christened the "Spirit of North Charleston" by the Air Force, honoring the city where the base is located.

C-17s are also stationed at Altus Air Force Base, Okla.
